Here is the full pen (minus the interchangeable nibs) broken down to it's components: I don't know what the correct names for all these parts are, but I shall be referring to them, from left to right, as:
- the cap,
- the grip,
- the bushing,
- the housing,
- the spring,
- the wire and weight,
- the plug,
- the cartridge nipple,
- the coupling,
- and the barrel.
The coupling is threaded on both sides and joins the grip section to the barrel. This is the only thing that needs to be unscrewed to disassemble the grip section. The cartridge nipple may come out with the coupling, or it may stay inside the grip section, I've had it happen differently on different pens. Once the coupling is removed the inner components of the grip section should slide out unless they are being held in place by dried ink or a bit of friction. So be careful that they don't fly out and get damaged or lost be accident. If they don't slide out on their own, a sharp tap against the base of your palm will hopefully dislodge them; if not you probably need to soak the pen to try to loosen up the dried ink holding them in place. Hopefully the plug will still be holding the wire and weight into the housing, but it might come loose during disassembly as it's under a little spring pressure, so again, be careful. Here's a closeup of the parts in question: This photos shows how they all fit together, including the coupling: First the spring is slipped over the wire and onto the weight. This is then carefully inserted into the housing. Be very careful as the wire can easily get caught in the spring; I find it best to compress the entire spring down on the base of the weight, and insert them as deep into the housing as possible before releasing the spring. If done correctly, when the weight is carefully pushed deeper into the housing you should see the wire protrude from the tiny hole in the end: Once the wire and spring are correctly inserted in the housing, the plug can be fit on the base to keep them in place: Next the housing can be inserted into the bushing. The cartridge nipple can be placed at the top of the coupling, on the side with the smaller threads: When the housing is oriented correctly, the plug at the base should fit flush into the base of the bushing, as seen here: The bushing can then be slid into the grip: After which the coupling can be screwed in, completing the main assembly: Now all that's left to be done is add a cartridge, screw the barrel back onto the grip, screw on the tip of your choice, and cap it. When shaking the pen, the wire should protrude briefly from the grip in order to help clean the tip; it's hard to see and basically impossible to photograph in actual use, but here's a simulated photo (all component removed except the grip and the wire/weight):
These things can be a real pain to open up if ink dries inside. I left one soaking for over a month to try to clear out the old ink, and even then the components were covered in dried red ink once I managed to get them out. So be patient, and good luck.
